Took the ASI385MC to a friend to try it out on a 6'newtonian with a EQ mount.

Observations:

  • moon (through eyepiece and with camera)
  • M81 (Bode's Galaxy) - Ursus Major (through eyepiece and with camera)
  • M82 (Cigar Galaxy) - Ursus Major (with camera - in the same frame as M81)

A few notes:

  • Using a laser to quickly point the finder scope is grreat.
  • EQ mount takes some getting use to during star hopping but is really helpful once the target is found.
  • EQ mount makes it seamless to look for an object with an eyepiece and then switch to the camera.
  • EQ mount makes untracked EAA painless.
  • The 750mm focal length makes untracked EAA easier compared to the 1250mm of my Dobsonian.
  • We were able to stack with sub frames of 1s and pretty clean pictures.
  • Also the whole telescope is easier to setup/move/teardown without visible disadvantages once you do EAA.
