We had clear blue skies all day (and the day before) so I decided to take the telescope out. It took some time to put it back together (I had left it disassembled after the GSSP trip). The marine layer never appeared but seeing was pretty poor (or maybe I had forgotten how bad the sky is in the city).
I observed a variety of targets, some with good results (globular clusters, galaxies, planetary nebulas) and others not so much (nebulas). See below for details.
Observations:
- M13 Great Hercules Cluser
- M92 Globular Cluster, Hercules
- M57 Ring Nebula, Lyra
- M51 Whirlpool Galaxy, Canes Venatici
- M101 Pinwheel Galaxy and Super Nova SN2023ixf, Ursa Major with
- M63 Sunflower Galaxy
- M94 Croc's Eye Galaxy, Canes Venatici
- C21 Box Galaxy, Canes Venatici
- M106 and NGC 4248 Galaxies, Canes Venatici
- C26 Silver Needle Galaxy, Canes Venatici
- M109 Vacuum Cleaner Galaxy, Ursa Major
- M97 Owl Nebula, Ursa Major - had trouble stacking - so no picture
- M27 Dumbbell Nebula, Vulpecula
- C27 Crescent Nebula, Cygnus - always a hard target - especially with Cygnus low in the sky
- C33 East Veil Nebula, Cygnus - could "see" it in real time but picture was too bad to be uploaded
- M4 Crab Cluster - Scorpius
- M5 Rose Cluster - Serpens
